How to choose a site security camera hire company in Queensland
Site camera hire companies can look identical online. The differences show up later: who is actually watching the footage, how fast a fault gets fixed, and whether the unit fits your site at all. Ask these ten questions before you sign.
- Do they hold a Queensland security licence? Anyone installing or monitoring security equipment in QLD needs one. Ask for the licence number and check it with the Office of Fair Trading. VSG: Master Security Licence 4331427.
- Who monitors the cameras, and to what standard? "Monitored" can mean anything from an app alert to a staffed control room. Ask whether it is an ASIAL Grade A1 centre (the top grade) and whether there is a backup centre. VSG: two Grade A1 centres with automatic fail-over.
- Is monitoring included or extra? Some quotes look cheap until monitoring is added. VSG: monitoring is included in the hire.
- What happens when an alarm goes off? Look for live deterrence (siren and strobe) plus control-room escalation, not just a recording you watch the next day.
- Will the unit physically fit your site? Trailer units need vehicle access. VSG systems are pole-mounted and carried in by hand. Compare pole-mounted and trailer units.
- How quickly can they set up? VSG: 1–2 business days.
- What is the minimum hire period? VSG: 8 weeks.
- How long does it run without sun? VSG: 3–5 cloudy days on battery.
- What is the fault response time? VSG: next business day.
- Are they insured and accredited? Ask for public liability cover and industry membership. VSG: $20 million public liability, ASIAL corporate member.
