Pole-mounted solar CCTV vs trailer units: which suits your site?
Most solar CCTV hired on Queensland construction sites comes on a trailer. Virtual Security Guard does it differently: every system is pole-mounted, and the whole unit is carried in by hand. Here is how the two approaches compare, so you can pick what suits your site.
Key facts
- Every VSG system is pole-mounted. We do not use trailers.
- Carried in by hand: no tow vehicle, crane truck or wide access needed.
- Mounted on a temporary base, concreted in, or fitted to existing poles.
- 24/7 ASIAL Grade A1 monitoring included. Setup within 1–2 business days.
Side by side
| Pole-mounted (VSG) | Trailer unit | |
|---|---|---|
| Getting it on site | Carried in by hand – no tow vehicle or crane truck | Towed in; needs vehicle access and a clear path |
| Tight or narrow sites | Infill blocks, courtyards, behind fencing, upper levels | Limited to where a trailer can be reversed in |
| Footprint | A single pole on a base or concreted in | A full trailer footprint, often in a laydown or parking area |
| Mounting options | Temporary base, concreted in, or fitted to existing poles | Trailer only |
| Relocating as the build moves | Re-positioned by hand | Needs re-towing |
| Power | Solar with battery; 240 V option where mains is available | Usually solar with battery |

Where pole-mounted wins
- Infill and townhouse sites with no room for a trailer.
- Sites behind temporary fencing, where a trailer would take up the gate.
- Upper levels and podiums that a vehicle can't reach.
- Public spaces and parks, where a colour-matched pole looks tidier than a trailer.
- Existing infrastructure: we have fitted systems to council street-light and floodlight poles with custom brackets, with no new pole and no trenching. See our pole-mount and custom installs.
Where a trailer can make sense
On large, open greenfield sites with good vehicle access, a trailer unit works too. If that is your site, we will still quote it on a pole and you can compare.

Frequently asked questions
Does VSG hire out trailer CCTV units?
No. All VSG systems are pole-mounted, on a temporary base or concreted in, so they can go where trailers can't.
How do you get a pole system onto a tight site?
It's carried in by hand and assembled on the spot. No tow vehicle, crane truck or wide access is needed.
Can it be moved as the build progresses?
Yes. Our team can re-position it as stages change.
